Accelerated evaluation of parameters of an endurancelimit distribution
Abstract
An accelerated method of determining the endurance limit from the cyclic strain diagram [7] can be used to determine the endurance-limit distribution function.Comparison of the distribution functions obtained for cylindrical smooth specimens of steel 45 by the proposed method and the "up-and-down" method showed that their difference is not statistically significant.Statistical analysis shows that the accelerated method is more efficient than the "up-and-down" method under the condition that the same number of specimens is tested in both cases.The "up-and-down" method permits the determination of the parameters of only normallaw endurance-limit distributions. There is no such restriction on the accelerated method.The time required to determine the endurance-limit distribution function by the accelerated method is 20–30 times shorter than the time required with the "up-and-down" method.
