Numerical calculation of turbulent recirculating flows
Abstract
The standard K-epsilon turbulence model was built into a calculation program for the simulation of three-dimensional laminar flows. The discretization of general transport phenomena, the transport equations, and the boundry conditions are presented. In the numerical calculation of turbulent flows, on the basis of the time-averaged Navier-Stokes equations (Reynolds equations) and using a turbulence model consisting of two additional transport equations, the choice of the difference methods remains free. In order to evaluate the simulation quality, the turbulent flow was calculated on a cavity and in channel with retracted stage and transverse rib, respectively. The comparison of the results with experiments and other numerical investigations shows varying agreement.
