Design study of the vacuum pump of the ESRP
Abstract
The vacuum system of a synchrotron radiation device was studied by a static and dynamic finite element method. Results reveal the possibility of pumping this system only by lumped pumps, by localizing most of the radiation-induced gas load at a number of special absorbers (crotches). Calculations indicate 256 starcell-type ion pumps and 64 conventional sputter-ion pumps. An extra blind flange on these pumps provides for the installation of multifilament titanium sublimation pumps. Total desorption during operation estimated at 0.000018 Torr/sec and a total pumping speed of 22.400/sec result in an average pressure of 1.1 times 10 to the minus 9th power Torr (79% effective pumping speed). Dynamical calculations indicate a pumpdown time of 500 hr.
