Receiving facilities for radio signals from geostationary direct-broadcast satellites in the 12-GHz band
Abstract
The design of reception and distribution networks for television and radio signals from the European direct-broadcast satellites is discussed. The basic outdoor unit comprising parabolic antenna and SHF converters for both circular polarizations is briefly characterized. Three approaches to distribution via cable to individual users are examined in detail and illustrated with block diagrams: distribution of the first intermediate-frequency band (950-1750 MHz) without modulation change, VHF/UHF distribution with previous channel-selective VSB/AM/MAC modulation and binary or quaternary data frame, and VHF/UHF distribution with previous channel-selective modulation to PAL or SECAM (with loss of some information). Present cable systems are already adequate for the 16 planned digital stereo radio programs.
