The scattering of electromagnetic waves in the case of a perfectly conducting spheroid
Abstract
Farafonov and Slavianov (1980) have considered a new effective algorithm for the solution of a problem involving the diffraction of a plane electromagnetic wave incident upon a perfectly conducting spheroid. In the present investigation, this algorithm is employed in the determination of the characteristics of the scattering process occurring in the case of a plane electromagnetic wave which is incident upon a perfectly conducting spheroid. A wave travelling in a direction lengthwise to the axis of rotation of the spheroid is considered along with a case involving an incidence of the wave at an oblique angle. The electric field strength with respect to the fields of incident and scattered wave is considered, taking into account a representation in the form of an infinite series. Formulas are presented for describing the characteristics of scattering, and the results of numerical calculations are discussed. It is found that the employed algorithm is very efficient with respect to numerical calculations for the intermediate region when the dimensions of the spheroid and the wave length are not very different.
