Circular waveguides of hollow-dielectric-channel type
Abstract
The present study examines electromagnetic wave propagation in circular waveguides of hollow-dielectric-channel type (HDC waveguides) intended for the short-wave part of the millimeter and submillimeter ranges. It is shown that the propagation modes of different HDC waveguides possess near-field structures, which makes it possible to consider these waveguides as belonging to a single class. Expressions are derived for the damping of the propagation modes, and values of mode filtering are estimated. It is shown that losses of the operating mode in HDC waveguides can be kept very small, while assuring the effective self-filtering of parasitic modes. A determination is made of types of HDC waveguides in which the operating mode has a highly axisymmetric radiation pattern.
