The structure of FM and PM signals reflected by the ionosphere at near-critical frequencies
Abstract
An analysis is made of the dispersion distortions of frequency-modulated (FM) and phase-modulated (PM) radio signals reflected by the ionosphere at its maximum which is approximated by a symmetric Epstein layer. Fast Fourier transforms are used to obtain numerical results. The effect of dispersion distortions on the efficiency of optimal FM and PM signal processing is estimated.
