Selection of longitudinal lower-mode oscillations of a millimeter-wave open resonator by long resonance inhomogeneities
Abstract
A method for the mode selection of open resonators is proposed which is based on the frequency-discriminating resonance properties of long rectangular inhomogeneities situated either on the mirrors or inside the resonator. It is shown that the selection is conditioned by frequency-dependent additional diffraction losses of the resonator with inhomogeneities. The dependence of the degree of selection on the sizes of the inhomogeneities is investigated, and recommendations on choosing these sizes are given.
