Microwave-oscillation pulse generation in a relativistic BWT-TWT type device
Abstract
A theoretical study of the nonstationary excitation of microwave oscillations in a slow-wave structure by a high-current relativistic beam is presented. A nonlinear method based on the use of an equivalent circuit takes into account the high electronic load, the interaction of the beam with forward and backward waves, band-edge amplification, and arbitrary end conditions; this method makes it possible to perform a detailed investigation of pulse regimes of Cerenkov emission. Data are obtained on generation power and frequency, and pulse shape; and factors affecting the electronic frequency tuning are examined. The possibility of generating high-power nanosecond microwave pulses in long systems is demonstrated.
