Effect of a sharp change in Q caused by internal inhomogeneities in open electrodynamic structures
Abstract
A rigorous spectral theory for open resonators, consisting of a circular cylinder with a longitudinal slit and a coaxial ideally conducting cylindrical ribbon, is used to compute the characteristic numbers of an operator function, constructed for a given boundary-value problem, which defines the resonant frequency of the transverse waves. The results indicate that even a narrow conducting ribbon in an open circular cylindrical resonator can substantially lower the radiative loss for the low-Q H(01) mode.
