Passive mode locking of a semiconductor diode laser
Abstract
A GaAs/GaAlAs multiple-quantum-well structure was used to produce the first reported stable passive mode locking of a GaAs laser with an external saturable-absorber element. The shortest laser-diode pulses (1.6 psec) ever produced (to the knowledge of the authors) in a regular pulse train have been observed.
