The theory of turbulent jets (2nd revised and enlarged edition)
Abstract
The theory of turbulent jet flows and methods for calculating jets in various apparatus are reviewed in the light of the results of recent theoretical and experimental studies. Particular attention is given to jets of a compressible gas with inhomogeneous parameter fields and variable turbulence in the initial cross-section; jets of three-dimensional configurations; complex jets resulting from the separation of a boundary layer or from the interaction of a jet with a solid surface or a counterpropagating flow; and twisted jets, two-phase jets, and jets exposed to buoyancy forces. New simplified methods are proposed for the analysis of jet flows in channels and mixing devices; explicit relationships are obtained which describe the effect of flow energy losses on turbulence and mixing.
