Stimulated synchrotron emission from a relativistic electron beam
Abstract
The energy characteristics of stimulated synchrotron emission (SSE) from relativistic electron beams are analyzed with reference to processes in free-electron lasers. The applicability of existing formulas for stimulated-radiation power is considered, and it is shown that the analysis of real devices requires the use of a modified particle-lifetime distribution function. SSE at the higher harmonics of the cyclotron frequency is examined, and it is demonstrated that, for an optimal frequency detuning of the incident wave with respect to the electron spin frequency, it is possible to achieve effective SSE at harmonics corresponding to the maximum of spontaneous emission.
