Propagation and interaction of transversally limited beams in anisotropic media
Abstract
A parabolic wave equation is obtained which describes the propagation and interaction of light beams in anisotropic media with allowance for the anisotropic nature of diffraction. The equation is used for solving several problems in linear and nonlinear crystal optics, and the role of anisotropic diffraction is evaluated. In particular, it is shown that the role of anisotropic diffraction is significant during the propagation of focused Gaussian light beams in a uniaxial crystal. The effect of anisotropic diffraction during second harmonic generation by a focused pump beam is also discussed.
