Analysis and design of coupled-cavity lasers. I - Threshold gain analysis and design guidelines. II - Transient analysis
Abstract
Interest shown in coupled-cavity lasers is related to their simplicity, compatibility with a variety of real index guided structures, electronic controllability, and demonstrated capability of providing spectral control. The present investigation is concerned with techniques for analyzing coupled-cavity lasers and the development of a number of mathematical relationships useful in the design of structures with prescribed properties. Attention is given to the use of linear analysis for obtaining design criteria, the effective mirror concept, design equations, and the graphical illustration of design formulas. The transient response of the two-section laser is also considered, taking into account two distinct rate-equation approaches.
