Comparison of experimental and calculated ionograms of long-range oblique sounding on the Moscow-Molodezhnaia (Antarctica) path
Abstract
Typical averaged ionograms for March 1979 on the Moscow-Molodezhnaia path are obtained by the graphic superposition of experimental ionograms of long-range oblique sounding. These ionograms are compared with ionograms calculated on the basis of the adiabatic method using the EMI-81 model. It is shown that, on the average, this model correctly represents the distribution characteristics of the ionospheric plasma. The results of the comparison also indicate that the structure of the averaged ionograms is mainly determined by the distribution geometry of the ionospheric plasma along the propagation path.
