Design of a microwave pin diode complex weight circuit
Abstract
A simple PIN diode circuit which is capable of producing amplitude and phase weighting at X-band frequencies with relatively high definition is described. The device consists of a pair of variable attenuators and one bit 180-deg phase shifters which enables the selection of weights for all four quadrants of the complex plane. The design circumvents the need of a highly nonlinear direct current control circuit for the PIN diodes so that it can be readily interfaced with the standard microprocessor hardware.
