The numerical solution of planar and axisymmetric cavitational flow problems
Abstract
This paper describes a method for the numerical solution of planar and axisymmetric Riabouchinsky cavity flows. The problem is formulated as the minimization of a functional over a variable region, which is solved numerically by the method of variable finite elements. The convergence difficulties experienced by some other authors do not appear here, and the method is found to be successful for both planar and axisymmetric problems.
