The radiation field of plane antennas in or above stratified structures
Abstract
The present investigation is concerned with a procedure for the calculation of the radiation properties of plane antennas in or above stratified structures. The determination of the current distribution is based on the integral equation which has been used by Wang and Hansen (1983) for the computation of microstrip antennas. An essential component of this integral equation is Green's function which has to be determined for the solution of the integration equation for certain points. The determination of Green's function is discussed, taking into account the fields of a current element, the solution of the Sommerfeld integrals, and the improvement of the convergence of the Sommerfeld integrals. The employment of the method of moments is considered along with the computation of the radiation field. The described procedure is utilized for the calculation of the radiation properties in the case of geological structures and biological tissues, giving attention also to microstrip antennas.
