Magnetic levitation - The track currents
Abstract
An infinitely long wire carrying a direct current I moves parallel with a conducting plate of thickness d. The motion is at right angles to the current. A relativistic formulation is used to obtain the lift and drag forces on the primary current I, and the distribution of currents induced in the track. Extensive numerical data are provided, especially on the track currents.
