Service experience of EDF 20 kV XLPe insulated cable
Abstract
The MV network cable with synthetic insulation was studied, and the various stages in this technical development are outlined. The operational requirements are recalled, and the principal performances of the cable presented. The service results of networks equipped with the cable are compared for the past few years with results from existing networks using cables with impregnated paper insulation. The ease of installation of the cable, the development of connection accessories that are easier to handle and more reliable than those used on cables with impregnated paper insulation, and the development of mechanical laying techniques, should lead to wider use of underground cable in certain rural areas.
