Acoustic field of a fan-type converter of surface waves
Abstract
A model of elementary independent sources is used to study radiation field of a fan-type converter of surface acoustic waves. It is shown that, near the converter axis, a narrow SAW beam is formed whose width is equal to several wavelengths. The acoustic beam is broadened and its intensity decreases with distance from the converter axis. As the excitation frequency is varied, the beam scans along the converter aperture. Experimental results are presented on the acoustic radiation field of a fan-type SAW converter on a lithium niobate substrate.
