On the accuracy and stability of the quadratic upstream differencing in laminar elliptic flows
Abstract
Predictions by both the QUICK and hybrid schemes are presented for two laminar elliptic flows, the flow downstream of a sudden expansion in a plane duct, and natural convection in a rectangular enclosure with two adiabatic- and two isothermal-walls. Comparison with detailed experimental data covering a range of Reynolds numbers of 100 to 1020 is made in the first case. This provides a more challenging test for the ability of the QUICK scheme to reduce numerical diffusion than reported previously. Some details are given about the treatment of boundary conditions in the QUICK scheme. Comments on the stability of this scheme are provided in the appendix.
