Chemiluminescent/laser diode measurement technique intercomparison and captive air measurement program
Abstract
The objectives of this program were to carry out intercomparisons of the two techniques under varied conditions to ensure reliability of the analytical systems, and to obtain a high quality captive air NO/NO2/HNO3 data set. Field intercomparison showed that problems which had arisen during the laboratory intercomparison studies had been resolved, and demonstrated good agreement between chemiluminescence and laser diode techniques for all species at realistic ambient concentrations. The captive air studies showed good agreement for all species except for the anticipated PAN interference in the UM NO2 measurement, and the ambient air studies showed similarly good agreement except that the chemiluminescent technique gave erratic HNO3 readings in the presence of the local large fluctuating NO and NO2 concentrations.
