Measurement of the critical Marangoni number in a floating zone under reduced gravity
Abstract
The oscillatory state of thermocapillary convection in floating zones is described. The results of an experiment under reduced gravity in the TEXUS 5 rocket experiment are reported. The Marangoni number for the transition from laminar to oscillatory thermocapillary convection under microgravity is on the order of 9000.
