A broad band ESM/ECM antenna with 360 degrees multibeam coverage
Abstract
A broadband cylindrical multibeam lens antenna with 360 degrees multibeam coverage is described. The lens antenna continuously covers the 2-18 GHz frequency range and is enclosed in a cylindrical cover 0.64 m in diameter and 0.35 m high. The lens antenna structure consists of the cylindrical lens element which is between two circular conductive plates, a number of feed elements distributed along the circumference of the lens, a calibration probe, and a radome. Topics discussed include simultaneous observations in different directions with good sensitivity, achievable detection range, intercept probability, and accuracy in a monopulse direction finding mode. If a single-pole multi-throw switch is introduced, a rotating or program-controlled beam can be handled. This switch may be used for ESM or for active systems like ECM.
