Study on the baffle system of the sounding rocket payload INTER-ZODIAK
Abstract
Ultraviolet straylight suppression baffle systems are examined. Sufficient suppression for offset angles of 6 deg arc to the Sun was required. Configuration layouts were made with respect to requirements resulting from observation program, optics, experiment, mechanical/electrical interfaces, handling, and test, and a cylindrical baffle system concept was choosen. Main features are: simple structure, high rigidity, no considerable alteration of the suppression efficiency by oblique incident solar radiation, no additional straylight from payload or Earth, no possible mutual interference between the two baffles through visual contact of inside parts. Disadvantages are: direct solar radiation on inside edges and surfaces, important space requirements.
