Transmission analysis for the Intelsat VI 120 Mbit/s TDMA system
Abstract
In connection with the introduction of the Intelsat VI satellite, which uses six times frequency reuse at 6/4 GHz compared to four times frequency reuse of the Intelsat V, together with satellite switched TDMA (SS-TDMA), it became necessary to make some changes in the transmission path characteristics. These changes are related to the satellite filter characteristics. As a result of these developments, the group delay response of the IS-VI input multiplex filter is tighter than that of the IS-V filter. The areas of transmission performance specifically related to the Intelsat VI TDMA/DSI system were evaluated on the basis of laboratory measurements and a detailed computer-aided analysis. Attention is given to transmission performance requirements, TDMA link performance, and coding requirements.
