Digital transponder (14/11 GHz, 120 Mbit/sec.). Phase 1: Preinvestigation and modem development
Abstract
A 14/11 GHz, 120 Mbit/sec regenerative transponder for satellite communication is presented. Receive filter (pulse shaping filter); differential phase shift keying (DPSK) demodulator; baseband regenerator; coherent phase shift keying (CPSK) modulator; and output filter were developed. Four DPSK is used for the uplink and four phase CPSK for the downlink. Demodulation and modulation are directly performed at 14 GHz and 11 GHz. The bit error rate was investigated. Results show an uplink degradation of 0,9 dB and a downlink degradation of 1,7 dB with 0.0001 bit error rate (nominal levels and room temperature) for transponder and test equipment together.
