Automation of coastal engineering modelling facilities
Abstract
A model hall automation plan was launched to speed up the time consuming task of collecting data from the model test instrumentation. Instrumentation and control systems to the Model Hall Data Acquisition System (MHDAS) was interfaced. The instruments and control systems were seen as extensions of the MHDAS. The overall model hall automation plan is described. The main objectives are: (1) to update and convert existing first generation microprocessor controlled instrumentation, the probe calibrators, (2) to interface the experimental measurement platform controller (MPC) to the MHDAS, and (3) to add from the design stage all the necessary software and hardware to automate newly developed instrumentation, the trolley controller.
