Selectivity of low tension circuit protection: The SELLIM system
Abstract
A circuit protection system which combined total selectivity and high limitation of short circuit currents without complicated switch design or setting is described. An ultralimiter circuit breaker (D1) was installed ahead of another switch (D2). Switch D1 did not break the circuit when the first fault wave appeared, but opened temporarily to allow D2 to eliminate the short circuit and to reestablish service after 10 msec. If the fault occurred between D1 and D2, a second fault wave occurred, and D1 operated as a circuit breaker.
