ROSAT-FI design review
Abstract
The Rosat X-ray, XUV astronomy satellite focal instrumentation design is reviewed. The STS launched satellite has an 83 cm X-ray telescope with three focal plane instruments, and a 58 cm XUV telescope with two focal plane instruments. Position sensitive proportional counter, mechanics, and electronics subsystems are described. High resolution imager interfaces are outlined. Quality control, product assurance, safety, integration and test plans and data facility are summarized. The satellite is designed for 6 months all sky surveying and 12 months pointed observations.
