Evaluating and quantifying user perception of pavement serviceability
Abstract
The validity of using physical measures of road roughness obtained by a Mays Road Meter as a surrogate of human responses was determined in order to predict the user perception of ride quality or serviceability of various highway surfaces. Three types of psychometric scaling methods for obtaining subjective ride quality ratings were evaluated in a pilot study. Since it was found that there was essentially no difference among the results provided by either method, the scale originally used in the AASHO road test was selected for uses in the main study.
