Advanced laser technology and applications; Proceedings of the Meeting, Arlington, VA, May 6, 7, 1982
Abstract
Recent development in laser materials, functions, performances, and research are reviewed. Advanced lasers and laser components are discussed in terms of Nd:YLF lasers, the spectroscopic properties of TbP5O14, TbLiP4O12, and TbAl3(BO3)4, and glass components for Nd lasers. Tunable laser research in the valence-electron structures of Y3Al5O12 (YAG) and Al2O3, Cr2O2 (ruby) lasers, fluorescent branching ratios for YAlO3:Er3(+) examined within the Judd-Ofelt theory, and wavelength selectivity with metal halide lasers. Applications of the objective laser speckle method for three-dimensional displacement measurement on curved surfaces, of transverse RF waveguide CO2 lasers, and of frequency stabilized CO2 lasers are explored. Attention is also given to 1-2 micron III-V compound detectors, a miniature short-pulse Nd:YAG laser oscillator, a 1.73 micron eyesafe laser rangefinder, the use of alexandrite lasers, and CO2 laser radar transmitters.
