Amplification of a two-frequency signal by an electrostatic amplifier
Abstract
The present study examines the two-frequency (two-mode) approximate nonlinear theory for the electrostatic amplification of cyclotron waves with resonator coupling devices and an amplifying section with a quadrupole electrostatic field. Dynamic desynchronization is considered as the nonlinearity mechanism. The theory is based on the solution of the equations of electron motion with two-frequency initial conditions. The proposed method makes it possible to calculate the characteristics of an input electrostatic amplifier, influencing the noise immunity of the receiving system. The frequency selectivity with respect to intermodulation is examined by way of illustration.
