Resonance mode transformation in oversized electrodynamic systems
Abstract
The effects of wave transformation in resonance volumes formed by the widened parts of oversized waveguides are investigated using two methods, a new version of the cross-section method and the method of vector eigenfunctions. Results of a numerical study of resonance mode transformation are presented for the case where the axially symmetric resonance volume is common to the interacting modes and for the case of mode localization in different volumes. Both methods are found to yield similar results. However, the method of cross-sections has the advantage of being simple, and hence is preferable, particularly in the analysis of systems with nonsymmetric modes.
