The possibilities of the single-antenna sounding of the ionosphere
Abstract
The feasibility of using the alternation of transmission and reception modes in radar systems for the sounding of the ionosphere by linear-FM signals is examined. Conditions are determined under which the received echo signal has the greatest magnitude. An expression is derived for the noise caused by mode alternation, and the signal/noise ratio is calculated. A comparison is made with CW and pulsed radar systems.
