The propagation of surface waves in graded-index slab waveguides with an irregular section
Abstract
The transformation of guided waves in an irregular graded-index slab waveguide is investigated using spectral expansion. A system of waves of continuous spectrum is obtained, and several of the properties of these waves are studied. Power losses of the principal mode due to transformation into other guided modes with a periodic variation of the boundaries of the graded layer is analyzed. Power losses of the principal mode due to transformation are examined in the case when the boundaries of the graded layer vary according to the stationary random law.
