Improvements to a pulse compression radar matched filter
Abstract
A method is presented for designing nonlinear frequency modulated pulse compression waveforms. A modification to the normal matched filter is developed that enables the ideal sidelobe levels to be achieved with negligible S/N loss due to mismatching. A pulse compression system using this modified filter which has TB = 1000 (T = 10 microsec, B = 100 MHz) is proposed that would have sidelobes below 45 dB, a mismatch loss of less than 0.002 dB, and moderate tolerance to Doppler shift.
