Resonant coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering
Abstract
The advantages of resonant excitation are pointed out after a brief review of the main CARS properties and of the work done in the past few years. In this case, the lines observed in coherent Raman scattering are resonantly enhanced; detectability is thus improved and the detection of trace components in gas mixture becomes possible. By investigating the expression of the third order susceptibility, the main contributions were identified and classified. If the laser frequencies are tuned to the proper spectral domain, several denominators of these terms become simultaneously resonant. Thus double or triple resonances are obtained, depending on the particular case of the C2 radical. The performance of the CARS spectrometer was improved. Electronic enhancement was achieved by tuning the laser frequencies to the Swan system.
