Convective motions of a gas during the propagation of a thermal wave along the lower boundary of a closed region
Abstract
An analysis is presented of the convective motions of a gas in a plane region of square cross-section which occur during the propagation of a temperature wave along the lower boundary of the region. Two stationary solutions corresponding to single-vortex and dual-vortex convective structures are shown to be possible beyond the stability limit of the system, depending on the wave propagation rate. In order to accurately define the conditions for the occurrence of the different convective motions, a numerical modeling of the convection is carried out on the basis of two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations for a compressible gas. The possibility of using the model proposed here for describing the gas-dynamic effects associated with the propagation of combustion waves in closed vessels is discussed.
