A color-magnitude diagram for the Large Magellanic Cloud cluster NGC 1847.
Abstract
Star counts to V ≈ 21 in and around the LMC cluster NGC 1847 compare well with King models. A core radius of 1.2 pc and a tidal radius of 12 pc are derived. The counts indicate that the mass of stars in the cluster brighter than MV = +1m.0 is ∼104 Msun. A color-magnitude diagram shows a well-populated main sequence and sparsely-populated but well-defined giant branch. The authors derive an age for the cluster of 25 ± 10 million years and find that it has a heavy element abundance of Z ∼ 0.01.
