Short-period noncontact close binary systems. I. UU Lyncis.
Abstract
The close binary system UU Lyn is discussed on the basis of B, V photoelectric and spectroscopic observations. From an analysis of the obtained light and velocity curves, it is found that the component stars consist of a main-sequence primary of F3 type and a possible main-sequence secondary of K type and that they are definitely inside their critical Roche lobes even though nearly filling the lobes. Discussions are also made on physical properties of the component stars and the evolutionary status of the binary, and the importance of a systematic study on such short-period noncontact systems is emphasized.
