Optical systems for efficient triplematrixproduct processing
Abstract
Three different optical systems are developed for efficient evaluation of a triplematrix product of the form /U/ /G/ /V/. One system uses a purely spaceintegrating architecture, whereas the other two use hybrid time and spaceintegrating architectures. Each of these three systems has a distinct format for input (using onedimensional and twodimensional spatial light modulators) and output (using wither 1D or 2D timeintegrating detector arrays or highbandwidth singleelement detectors) devices, thus permitting a tradeoff between parameters such as speed and dynamic range. Potential applications for these systems include image data compression and orthogonal transforms of coefficient matrices encountered in linear systems analysis.
