An experimental investigation of the metamorphism of basic rocks
Abstract
The associations typical of metabasites are considered. A brief survey of the literature on the zonal metamorhic complexes of eugeosynclines is included, and various interfacial reactions that have been investigated are validated through a paragenetic analysis of greenstones from the southern Urals. This in turn makes it possible to refine quantitatively the basis for the general system of metabasite mineral fascies in P-T-X(CO2) coordinates and to elucidate certain features of the flows involved. A plagioclase-hornblende geothermometer/barometer for evaluating the P-T conditions of the amphibolite fascies of metamorhism is then described.
