W-2000 - An advanced long range 3-D radar
Abstract
The features and the performance of long-range three-dimensional air defense radar are considered. The conventional narrow single scanning pencil beam can perform adequately in a nonhostile environment. However, difficulties arise if these conditions are not satisfied. A classical stacked beam radar is superior to a pencil beam system in a hostile environment. But there is the disadvantage that the transmit beam illuminates the ground at all times. The W-2000 overcomes the deficiencies of classical approaches by using a combination of stacked beams and sequential scanning. A high range resolution mode can be provided for noncooperative target recognition. Various features along with a remote control capability make the radar suitable for unattended operation.
