Calculation of losses in the rectifying diode of a rectenna
Abstract
A system of equations relating the characteristics of a rectenna element, in particular the efficiency, to the parameters of a Schottky-barrier diode is proposed for determining the inherent ohmic losses of rectenna elements. A method is also proposed for minimizing inherent losses at various levels of the input microwave power. Calculations of losses are carried out for an Au-GaAs diode, and it is shown that diodes of this type are capable of conversion efficiencies in excess of 90 percent over the input power range 0.1-5 W.
