Stable meter- and decimeter-wave oscillators
Abstract
The theory, analysis, and design of acoustic oscillators based on bipolar and field-effect transistors with mechanical and electronic tuning are examined. The discussion covers oscillators operating at mechanical harmonics of quartz resonators and surface acoustic wave oscillators. A detailed evaluation is made of the effect of noise and various destabilizing factors on the stability of oscillators with respect to the generation frequency. The use of self-excited oscillators in modern frequency synthesizers is discussed.
