Optimization of the jet cooling of a rotating disk
Abstract
One of the simplest ways to optimize the jet cooling of a disk rotating inside a casing is to use air nozzles positioned at the angle to the disk face that corresponds to maximum heat transfer. Here, general empirical formulas are presented which make it possible to calculate the optimum angle for cylindrical nozzles. The formulas are valid over a wide range of cooling system parameters, such as the number of nozzles, jet impingement radius, disk speed, jet velocity, and nozzle diameter.
