The broad-band scattering response of periodic arrays
Abstract
A technique for computing the broad-band scattering from periodic arrays of linear antennas is presented. This technique is based upon the expansion of the current distribution on each element in the array into a set of resonant modes. With the proper set of modes this technique is capable of interpreting the frequency response of many periodic arrays. This implies that resonances can be attributed to certain modes on the elements while antiresonances are caused by the interaction between two or more modes. The scope of this paper will be limited to arrays of dipoles and complementary arrays of slots. It will be shown that this technique is capable of giving good agreement between measured and computed results of the scattering in both amplitude and phase of large two-dimensional dipole or slot arrays.
